Sutton, Megal Miss 36-Hole Cut at PGA Assistant Professional Championship

Round 1 & 2 Results

Port St. Lucie, Florida – Iowa PGA Members Davis Sutton and Brandon Megal missed the 36-hole cut at the 42nd National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship. The cut took the top 70 players and ties after the second round.

Sutton followed up his 3-over-par 75 first round with a 7-over-par 79 in round two. Sutton bogeyed four of his first five holes and carded a double bogey on the par-4 9th for a 6-over-par 42 on the front nine. Sutton’s back nine featured an eagle on the par-5 13th hole and a birdie on the par-5 16th hole. He also had four bogeys for a 1-over-par 37 on the back nine. He finished the tournament at 10-over-par 154.    

Megal started his second round with two birdies on his first three holes. He gave both those shots back on the par-4 eighth hole, but would birdie the ninth hole to make the turn at 1-under-par 35. Megal picked up his fourth birdie of the round on the par-3 11th hole to move to 2-under-par. Megal bogeyed the 14th and 16th holes and doubled the 18th hole for 2-over-par 74 in round two. He finished the tournament at 13-over-par 157.

This marks the end of the Iowa PGA Assistant Player of the Year Award race. Ben Montgomery of Twin Pines Golf Course is the Iowa PGA’s 2018 Assistant Player of the Year. Montgomery earned 1,066.67 Player of the Year Points this season.
