Sutton Cards 75 in Opening Round of PGA Assistant Professional Championship

Port St. Lucie, Florida – Iowa PGA Members Davis Sutton and Brandon Megal began their 42nd National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship on Thursday. Sutton sits at T66, while Megal is T128.

Sutton started his first round with back-to-back pars on the first two holes. He would bogey the next three holes before paring the remaining four holes on the front nine for a 3-over-par 39. Sutton jump started his back nine with birdies on holes 10 and 13, but would give both shots back with bogeys on 16 and 18 for an even-par 36 on the back nine. Sutton’s 3-over-par 75 puts him in T66 for the tournament and one stroke clear of the projected 36-hole cutline.  

Megal began his round with three straight pars before recording a double-bogey on the par-3 fourth hole. He would respond with four straight pars on Nos. 5-8, but surrendered two more strokes with his second double-bogey on the ninth hole. Megal carded four more bogeys and double-bogey on the back nine for an 11-over-par 83 in the first round. He is currently T128 and eight strokes over the projected 36-hole cut line.

Round two tees off Friday on the Wanamaker course at the PGA Golf Club. Sutton will tee off at 7:42 a.m. (ET) and Megal starts his second round at 11:39 a.m. (ET). The field will be cut to the low 70 players plus ties after the second the round. The cutline currently rest at 4-over-par (76).
