Seven Iowa PGA Members to Compete in 31st Senior PGA Professional Championship

Riverside, Iowa – Chad Proehl (Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course), Judd Gibb (Lakeside Municipal Golf Course), Jeff Schmid (Brown Deer Golf Club), Paul Del Vecchio (Augustana College), Curt Schnell (Okoboji View Golf Course), Jim Henry (EK Golf) and Joe Butler (Burlington Golf Club) will all participate in the 31st Senior PGA Professional Championship at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas this weekend (October 3-6).   Play will be on the Fazio Foothills and Coore Crenshaw Courses on Thursday and Friday.

A full field of 264 players will compete in the National Championship with several key exemptions at stake. The low 35 scorers will earn a berth into the 2020 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan, May 19-24. The top five finishers will earn an exemption into the final stage of the 2019 PGA Tour Champions National Finals.  Those that finish in the top eight, including ties, will automatically qualify for next year’s Championship, to be held October 15-18, 2020 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
 
Proehl and Schmid gained exemptions via their finishes in the 30th Senior PGA Professional Championship last fall.  Gibb, Del Vecchio, Schnell and Henry finished inside the top six at the 2019 Iowa Senior PGA Professional Championship. Butler finished seventh at this year’s Championship and advanced into the 31st Senior PGA Professional Championship as Iowa’s first alternate.
 
Gibb and Henry will be the first Iowa PGA Members to tee off in the 31st Senior PGA Professional Championship. Gibb tees off the #1 hole at 8:27 a.m. on the Fazio Foothills Course. Henry will tee off the #10 hole at 8:27 a.m. on the Fazio Foothills Course.  Schmid will follow, teeing off at 9:03. Proehl tees off at 9:21 a.m.  Butler is first off in the afternoon wave at 12:48 p.m. followed by Del Vecchio at 12:57 p.m. and Schnell is last to go at 1:24 p.m.
