Schmid qualifies for PGA Championship
Bluffton, South Carolina – Iowa PGA member, Jeff Schmid qualified for the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black on May 16-19, 2019 by finishing in a tie for 8th place at the 2019 PGA Professional Championship.  The Top 20 players advance to the PGA Championship from this National Championship.  Click here to meet the 20 players that qualified for the PGA Championship.

Schmid finished his final round with five-under-par round of 67 on the West Course. This was the low round of the day.  Schmid started out hot as he birdied the par-5 2nd hole and followed up with birdies on holes 6 and 7 to make the turn in 33.  He kept moving up the board as he rose from T48 to start the day and passed up 40 players to his final standing at T8.  He continued his momentum on the back-nine by making birdies on the 13th and 17th hole to finish off a bogey free round of 67.  His four-round total of 75-72-73-67=287 (E) and qualified him for the 2019 PGA Championship.  Jeff will have a great month as he has also qualified for another Major, the 2019 Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY on May 23-26.

Judd Gibb missed a chance at a play-off to compete in the PGA Championship by one stroke and become the 2nd Iowa PGA Member in 2019 to qualify for the PGA.  Gibb completed his final round with a two-over-par 74 on the West Course.  Gibb played a solid front-nine with by birdieing two of his first six holes (holes #2 and #6) and one bogey on hole #9 to turn in 35.  At one-point Gibb was in a tie for 12th place.  Gibb played a tough back nine with bogeys on holes 10, 15 and 18 to finish in 74 strokes.  His four-round total of 72-70-75-74=291 (+4) placed him in a tie for 25th place.

Proehl finished his final round with a six-over par 78 on the West Course. Proehl started out solid on the front by making eight pars and one bogey to turn in 37.  He started the back-nine off a little tough with bogeys on holes #10 and #11 followed by a double bogey on the par-5 12th hole.  He placed one more bogey on his card on hole #15 to finish his round of 78.  His four-round total is 70-76-73-78=297 (+10) to finish in a T71.
