McCarty, Proehl to Compete in 2018 John Deere Classic

Silvis, Illinois  – Iowa PGA Members Sean McCarty and Chad Proehl will compete in the John Deere Classic on July 12-15 at TPC Deere Run.

McCarty qualified for the John Deere Classic through the pre-qualifier event and open qualifier event at the Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Illinois. McCarty finished T4 at the first pre-qualifier event, and followed up with a 7-under-par 65 in the open qualifier to finish T2 and secure one of the four sports into the John Deere Classic. McCarty will be making his fourth John Deere Classic appearance (2003, 2008, 2013) this week. McCarty also made two appearances in the Hardee’s Classic in 1997 and 1998 (now named the John Deere Classic).      

Proehl received an exemption into this year’s John Deere Classic following his victory at the 2017 Iowa PGA Professional Section Championship at the Davenport Country Club. Proehl claimed the Section Championship with a 7-under-par 203 tournament total. Proehl will also be making his fourth John Deere Classic appearance (2008, 2011, 2012). 

The John Deere Classic marks the second PGA Tour event in which McCarty has qualified for in as many months. McCarty qualified for the 100th PGA Championship in June when he finished T2 at the PGA Professional Championship at the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, California. In addition to these events, McCarty has won four Iowa PGA tournaments this season.

This tournament will also be Proehl’s second PGA Tour event of the season. In June, Proehl participated in the PGA Champions Tour Principal Charity Classic at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa. Proehl earned a sponsors exemption and carded a 1-under-par 143 for a T54 finish. Proehl also played in the PGA Professional Championship in Seaside, California in June. He made the 54-hole cut and placed 74th. Proehl currently has two wins on the Iowa PGA schedule.  

Proehl will tee off at 9:10 a.m. tomorrow of off the first tee. He is paired with Conrad Shindler and Branson Burgoon. McCarty begins his round at 2 p.m. off number one. Adam Schenk and Ben Silverman round out McCarty’s three-some.
