McCarty, Proehl Finish Round One at John Deere Classic

Silvis, Illinois – Iowa PGA Members Sean McCarty and Chad Proehl competed in the first round of the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois today. McCarty finished T37 with a 3-under-par 68, and Proehl finished T129 with a 2-over-par 73. 

McCarty started off well with a birdie and four pars through his first five holes. He dropped a shot on the par-4 6th, but picked up his second birdie on the front nine on the eighth hole. McCarty made the turn at even par after bogeying the ninth hole. He then went on to card a bogey-free back nine with three birdies, including two-in-a-row on Nos. 17-18, before paring the 18th hole. 

McCarty’s first round marked his lowest score in a round at the John Deere Classic in three appearances. He also had a personal-best five birdies in the first round, surpassing his previous record of four (2003).  

Proehl carded a bogey-free front nine with a birdie on the par-4 5th hole, making the turn at 1-under-par (34). After bogeying the 11th hole, Proehl added his second birdie on the par-4 14th hole to get back to 1-under-par. He got into some trouble on the 15th hole where he took a double-bogey, but responded with a birdie on the par-5 17th to get back to even par. Proehl surrendered two shots on the 18th hole to finish round one at 2-over-par (73). 

McCarty will start his second round on the back nine starting at 8:50 a.m. tomorrow. Proehl is the last tee time off of number 10 tomorrow, with a start time of 2:20 p.m.
