Iowa PGA Professional Championship Preview

Riverside, IA – The Iowa PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and Omega takes place Monday-Tuesday, July 23-24 at Glen Oaks Country Club. This tournament offers a handful of exemptions into PGA Tour qualifier events, PGA Tour events and PGA of America events. 

The Iowa PGA Professional Championship is a 54-hole Championship with the first two round being played on the first day of the tournament. The top-5 finishers at this tournament earn exemption into the 52nd PGA Professional National Championship presented
by Club Car and Omega, at the Belfair of Bluffton, South Carolina on April 28 – May 1, 2019. The Top-20 finishers from the PGA Professional National Championship earn exemptions into the PGA Championship.  

Iowa PGA Members Darin Fisher, Sean McCarty, Ryan McClintock, Jeff Schmid and defending Iowa PGA Professional Champion, Chad Proehl all earned exemption into the 51st PGA Professional National Championship due to their finishes at the 2017 Iowa PGA Professional Championship. Fisher, McCarty, Proehl and Schmid all made the 54-hole cut at this year’s PGA Professional National Championship, and McCarty qualified for the 100th PGA Championship at the Bellerive Country Club on August 9-12 with a T2 finish at the event.

In addition to exemption into the PGA Professional National Championship, the winner of the Iowa PGA Professional Championship earns an exemption into the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. Proehl represented the Iowa PGA at the 2018 John Deere Classic a few weeks ago. The second and third place finishers earn exemptions into the John Deere Classic Open Qualifier.
