4 Iowa PGA Members Make First Cut at the 51st PGA Professional Championship

Seaside, California – Darin Fisher, Sean McCarty, Chad Proehl and Jeff Schmid all made the first cut of the 51st PGA Professional Championship. The final two rounds will be played June 19-20 on the Bayonet Course. 

McCarty currently sits T11 after the first two rounds. He carded six birdies, including three-in-a-row on Nos. 6-8 on the Black Horse Course on Sunday to finish at 1-under-par 71. McCarty followed up with a 1-over-par 73 yesterday with three birdies for a tournament total 144 (even par). He tees off at 12:30 p.m. in the third round. 

Proehl is T34 after two rounds. The Urbandale native recorded four birdies in the first round for an even-par 72. In the second round, Proehl finished at 2-over-par 74 with an eagle on the par-4 4th hole bringing his tournament total to 146 (+2). Proehl’s third round tee time is at 10:50 a.m.

Schmid is currently T51 after his even-par 72 in round one, and 3-over-par 75 in round two. Schmid poured in two birdies and 14 pars on day one and followed up with one birdie and 13 pars in the second round. He tees off at 9:40 a.m. for the third round. 

Fisher got off to a hot start in round one carding a bogey-free front nine with one birdie. He added three more birdies on the back nine for a 2-under-par 70, finishing T3 after the first day. Fisher’s second day featured one birdie and 11 pars for a 6-over-par 78, and a tournament total 4-over-par 148 (T66). Fisher will tee off at 9:00 a.m. in the third round. 

Following the conclusion of today’s round there will be a 54-hole cut, reducing the field to the low 70 scores and ties for the final round. The top 20 finishers in this event will clinch berths in the 2018 PGA Championship taking place August 9-12 at Bellerive Country Club. Today’s round will be broadcasted on the Golf Channel starting at 6:00 p.m.
