2018 Nomination Information


The nomination forms for the 2018 Iowa PGA Special Awards are now available.  Please click the tabs below to view eligibility and other details for each award.  Only PGA Members in good standing can nominate.  Associates are encouraged to talk to members about their suggestions for nominations and can submit supporting documentation.  

Deadline for nominations will be Sunday, August 5 at 11:59 p.m.  At that time, nominees will be asked to submit supporting documentation to the Iowa PGA Section Office no later than Friday, August 17.  The Special Awards committee will review all nominations and supporting documentation and will rank and select each award winner.  Announcement of 2018 award winners will be on or around September 4.  

The All Star Pro Golf Special Awards Luncheon will be hosted by Riverside Casino & Golf Resort on Tuesday, October 30.  Special thanks to Dave Brostrom and his company for their longtime support of this event.

Professional of the Year

Iowa PGA Professional of the Year

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

Class F or inactive members
Apprentices

While this honor should be based on a professional’s entire record, emphasis should be placed on his/her performance and achievements over the past five years. This is the highest honor paid to a PGA golf professional. The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:

  • Career enhancement qualities and leadership abilities
  • Strengths as a player / teacher / merchandiser / business person and over all golf professional
  • Contributions made to nominees facility’s success
  • Contributions to the game of golf at the section level
  • Size and success of nominee’s operation
  • Examples of golf professionals who have enhanced their careers through nominee
  • Nominee’s ability to play the game of golf
  • Previous Section awards or community involvement activities
  • List outstanding golfers whom nominee has instructed

 

Assistant Professional of the Year

Iowa PGA Assistant Golf Professional of the Year

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

Class F or inactive members
A-6 members
Apprentices not registered in the PGM program or on suspension.

While this honor should be based on a professional’s entire record, emphasis should be placed on his/her performance and achievements over the past year. This is the highest honor paid to an assistant golf professional. The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:

  • Strengths as a player / teacher / merchandiser / business person and overall golf professional
  • Contributions made to the success of the nominees facility
  • Contributions to the game of golf
  • Character of the nominee and respect from other professionals
  • Examples of golf professionals who have enhanced their careers through nominee
  • Nominee’s ability to play the game of golf
  • Previous Section awards or community involvement activities

Distinguished Service Award

Iowa PGA Distinguished Service Award

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

Class F or inactive members
Apprentices

This award is open to non PGA Members.  It is a great way to recognize great contributors to not only the Iowa PGA Section but the game of golf.  

The Iowa PGA Distinguished Service Award was initiated in 2014 to honor outstanding individuals as well as organizations for their contributions and service to golf and for inspiring others. Recipients are selected and should be nominated for their display of leadership, integrity, volunteering, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game of golf.  All nominees will be compiled, reviewed and selected by Iowa PGA Board of Directors.


Player Development Award

IOWA PGA PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AWARD


The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

Class F or inactive members
Apprentices

The Player Development Award is designed to recognize a PGA Professional for extraordinary and exemplary contributions and achievements in the area of player development.  This award considers the PGA Professional’s growth of the game leadership commitment at the Section and National levels and the impact made at the facility.

The Player Development Award Guidelines:

  • Contributions to Section and National Play Golf America initiatives.
  • Quantity, quality and diversity of player development programs.
  • Use of Play Golf America tools and resources.
  • Quality of best practices, including uniqueness of ideas, increase in rounds / revenues, retention and customer satisfaction.
  • Inspiration of fellow PGA Professionals in the area of player development.

The President’s Plaque Criteria:

  • Leadership of Section and National in the area of player development.
  • Use of Play Golf America Resource Center
  • Number of programs conducted, number of consumers / members attending events, diversity in types of programs and target customers.
  • Some form of measuring impact of program on player retention, increase in rounds played / sold, increase in member / customer satisfaction, impact on growing revenues or decreasing expenses.
  • Quality, practicality of Best Practice ideas.
  • Must be a member of the PGA President’s Council on Growing the Game.

Horton Smith Award

IOWA PGA HORTON SMITH AWARD

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

Class F or inactive members
Apprentices

This honor should be based on a professional’ entire record and achievements over their career. The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:

  • Various types of educational seminars brought to the section
  • Contributions made to building the PGA image
  • Leadership and networking ability
  • Promotion of the game of golf within the community
  • Techniques used to encourage membership support of the various seminars
  • Articles written for publication in books or magazines
  • Please list any sectional / nationally recognized courses attended by nominee which enhance the PGA professional

Bill Strausbaugh Award

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

Class F or inactive members
Apprentices

While this honor should be based on a professional’s entire record, emphasis should be placed on his/her performance and achievements over the past five years. Awarded to those who demonstrate day-to-day alternative methods of improving the employment conditions for the PGA professional. The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:
  • Involvement and significant contributions through mentoring of fellow PGA professionals and providing a significant impact on their careers.
  • Possessing overall integrity and recognition as a person of outstanding character, thus furthering the values that are representative of the Association and the profession.
  • Level of service to his/her section or the Association.
  • Participation in Community and Association activities including involvement in civic or charitable activities within his/her community.
  • Contributions to building the image of the game of golf, the PGA professional and the Association.
  • Previous Section awards or community involvement activities.

Teacher of the Year Award

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

This honor should be based on a professional’s entire record and achievements over their career. The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:
  • Overall impact in teaching at nominee’s facility
  • Unusual, innovative or special teaching programs initiated or implemented
  • Instructional articles, videos or publications written or produced
  • List of outstanding golfers whom the nominee has instructed
  • Involvement in junior golf activities and in the community
  • Innovative contributions to golf instruction

Youth Player Development Award

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

Class F or inactive members
Apprentices

While this honor should be based on a professional’s entire record, emphasis should be placed on his/her performance and achievements over the past two years. Nominee should also promote junior golf throughout the section. The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:
  • Number of events hosted for junior golf
  • Length of junior golf season
  • Teacher / Student ratio in junior golf program
  • Size and success of nominee’s junior program over the last two years
  • Effect junior golf has on the facility and in the community
  • Time dedicated to junior golf
  • Other Section awards or community involvement activities

Iowa PGA Patriot Award

The following professionals are ineligible for Section Award consideration:

The Patriot Award is presented to an Iowa PGA Professional who personifies patriotism through the game of golf and demonstrates unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who have valiantly served and protected the United States of America.  The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:
  • Contributions and support to the United States Armed Forces and its active duty personnel and veterans.
  • Proven interest, concern, and ability to provide opportunities and experience for active duty personnel and veterans to learn and play golf.
  • Demonstration and acknowledgement as an individual of outstanding leadership and strong moral character.

Private Merchandiser of the Year Award

Awarded to a PGA professional who has demonstrated superior skills

  • Size and success of nominee operation

Resort Merchandiser of the Year Award

Sales Representative of the Year Award

This honor should be based on a vendor’s entire record. This is the highest honor paid to a Sales Representative. The following guidelines should be used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:

Sales Integrity
  • Strengths in service and communication
  • Contributions made to nominees company’s success
  • Contributions to the game of golf at the section level
  • Size and success of nominee’s line
  • Sales Call Rotation and customer interaction
  • Previous awards or community involvement activities

Public Merchandiser of the Year
