Linda & Mark Burke - Ragbrai Patriots!
Mark Burke, PGA Teaching Professional at Willow Creek Golf Course in Des Moines and GIVE Foundation Instructor, and his wife Linda, are golfing their way through the Ragbrai route, raising money and awareness for the GIVE Foundation. Mark named the event, “PGAI4GIVE”, which stands for, “Play Golf Across Iowa for Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere”. The purpose of PGAI4GIVE is to raise awareness for the GIVE Foundation.
The GIVE Foundation is a not-for-profit organization to provide a structured golf program for injured Iowa Veterans who use the Iowa City VA Hospital. The golf program is comprised of four phases of training for injured veterans. The program is designed to enhance injured veteran’s mental, social, physical, and emotional well-being; and improve their quality of life.
Mark and Linda aren’t riding their bicycles but they are playing various golf courses along the Ragbrai route while advertising the GIVE mission statement and accepting donations that will positively impact the lives of injured veterans who want to learn and play the game of golf. Burke, a part-time instructor for the GIVE Foundation, came up with this idea earlier this spring and hopes to build on it for years to come.
