Proehl wins Iowa PGA Senior Professional Championship by 4 strokes

LONG GROVE, Iowa – Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Memorial Golf Course fired rounds of 64-68=132 (12-under par) to win the 2019 Iowa PGA Senior Professional Championship Glynns Creek Golf Course.  Judd Gibb of the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course and the 2019 Iowa PGA Professional Championship winner finished in 2nd place with rounds of 68-68=136 (8-under par).
Proehl opened play on Thursday with a clean card that included eight birdies.  He made four birdies on the front nine including holes 7, 8 and 9 and four on the back nine for a fine round of 8-under par, 64.  Gibb sat in second place with a round of 4-under par 68.

Proehl was never really threatened in his title run.  Proehl made four birdies on the front nine, holes 1, 4, 5 and 7 before he made his first bogey of the event on hole #10.  Proehl rebounded with a birdie on hole #14 to fire his 4-under par round of 68 to claim the championship.

Day two had many players shooting fine scores as they attempted to catch Proehl.  Paul Del Vecchio of Augustana College fired the low round of the day with a 7-under par 65.  Del Vecchio’s round started with a bogey on hole #2 before he made birdies on holes 5, 6, 7 and 9.  He completed his back nine with four birdies on holes 10, 11, 12, 14 and 18 to finish in a tie for 4th place at 6-under par (138) for the Championship.

Curt Schnell of Okoboji View and Jeff Schmid of Brown Deer Golf shot final rounds of 6-under par 66.
The Super Senior title was won by Schnell at 6-under par for the Championship.  Second place went to Jim Henry of EK Golf with rounds of 71-68=139 (5-under par) followed by Joe Butler of the Burlington Golf Club with rounds of 70-70=140 (4-under par).

This event was a qualifier for the 2019 Senior PGA Professional Championship to be played on October 3-6, 2019.  The event will be played at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas.  Play will be contested on the Fazio Foothills & Coore Crenshaw Courses.

Schmid and Proehl are exempt into the 31st Senior PGA Professional Championship. They will be joined by Gibb, Del Vecchio, Schnell and Henry.  Alternates for this championship are Butler and Bryan Luedtke of Bunker Links Golf Course.  For final results, click here.
