McCarty Qualifies for the 100th PGA Championship

Seaside, California – Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club qualified for the 100th PGA Championship on Wednesday after finishing T2 at the 51st PGA Professional Championship. The 2018 PGA Championship takes place August 9-12 at the Bellerive Country Club. 

McCarty started the final round T13, but carded five birdies and a bogey-free back nine to record a 4-under-par 68 in the final round, moving him up 11 spots to T2. McCarty finished the tournament at 3-under-par 285, just two strokes off winner Ryan Vermeer, and punched his ticket to his first career PGA Championship appearance. 

McCarty finished the tournament with 18 birdies, 41 pars, 11 bogeys and two double bogeys. He hit 26/56 fairways and totaled 115 puts, including 31 one-putts, to become the first Iowa PGA Member to finish second at the PGA Professional Championship. 

Jeff Schmid finished the tournament T63 recording 4 birdies, 54 pars and 14 bogeys over four days for a tournament total 10-over-par 298. Darin Fisher finished T71 with a 15-over-par 303 tournament total. Fisher tallied 10 birdies, 40 pars, 19 bogeys and 3 double bogeys this week. Proehl placed 74th in the 2018 PGA Professional Championship with a tournament total 19-over-par 307.
