Iowa Section PGA Professional Championship Press Release – August 3-4, 2009

The 2009 Iowa Section PGA Professional Championship sponsored by Titleist/FootJoy/Cobra, Club Car, and PGA TOUR will be held at The Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes, Iowa on Monday, August 3rd and Tuesday, August 4th. 65 Iowa Section PGA Professionals will participate in this 54-Hole competition which will advance the top five to the 2010 PGA Professional National Championship, June 27 – 30, 2010 (Sunday-Wednesday), at French Lick Resort in French Link, Indiana. This year’s champion will also earn a spot in the 2010 PGA TOUR John Deere Classic which will be contested at TPC @ Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois in July of 2010.

Competitors will play 27 holes on Monday, August 3rd and another 27 holes on Tuesday, August 4th. Detailed tournament information and pairings may be found by clicking HERE. Media and public is welcome to attend and admission is free.

The Iowa Section PGA is excited to host its biggest member championship at one of the top-ranked facilities in Iowa. The Harvester Golf Club was ranked the #1 golf course in Iowa by Golfweek (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006) and Golf Digest (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006). This will be the second straight year The Harvester Golf Club has hosted the Iowa Section PGA Professional Championship. Special thanks to John Habermann, Head PGA Professional, Chad Wilson, Superintendent, Dickson Jensen, Owner, and the entire staff at The Harvester Golf Club for hosting this Iowa PGA Championship.

Iowa PGA Pro-AM #2 – July 27th, 2009

The 2009 Iowa Section PGA Pro-Am #2 was held at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, IA on Monday, July 27th. Forty-four four-person teams comprised of one professional and three amateurs competed in this event. The format was 18-Hole Individual Low Professional and Team Two Best Balls of Four Net with amateurs receiving 90% of their current Handicap Index. This event served as the 4th of 6 events included in the season long NB Golf Cars League Championship. Special thanks to Barry Sebastian of NB Golf Cars and Tim Goranson of Club Car for sponsoring this season long event.

The Iowa Section PGA would like to thank Ken Schall, Director of Golf and his members and staff at Glen Oaks Country Club for hosting this tournament.

2009 Greater Cedar Rapids Open

The 2009 Greater Cedar Rapids Open Presented by Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano is being held July 24th through July 26th at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa. Competing in this event are some of the newest and brightest players from around the country who will compete with several Iowa professionals and invited amateur golfers. This year’s low professional in the open division is guaranteed a check of $12,500.

Proceeds from this event will benefit Camp Courageous of Iowa and other local charities. Since its inception, the Greater Cedar Rapids Open has given almost $80,000 to local charities and at the same time impacted the economy in a very significant way.

Spectators are welcome to attend free of charge.
