2009 IHSAA Boys State Golf Championships

The Iowa High School Athletic Association Boys 1A, 2A, and 3A State Golf Championships began, Friday, May 29.  The Class 1A Championship was held at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore, IA.  The Class 2A Championship was held at Lake Panorama National GC in Panora, IA.  The Class 3A Championship was held at The Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes, IA.  The second round was held on Saturday, May 30th.  Congratulations to all qualifiers.  Listed below are the final results.

Principal Charity Classic Open Qualifying Results – May 26th

The Principal Charity Classic Open Qualifying was held at Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City on May 26th.  Competitors endured cooler temps and a bit of rain during the day.  The low 3 qualified for the Principal Charity Classic that will be held at Glen Oaks CC in W. Des Moines, Iowa May 29th-31st.

Principal Charity Classic Pre Qualifier – May 21st, 2009

The Principal Charity Classic Pre-Qualifier Qualifying was held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora, IA on May 21st.   The low 5 qualified for the Principal Charity Classic Open Qualifier that will be held at Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City, Iowa May 26th.

Iowa PGA Pro AM #1 – May 18th, 2009

The 2009 Iowa Section PGA Pro-AM #1 was held on May 18^th, 2009 at Dubuque Golf & Country Club (par 70).  Teams were comprised of one Iowa Section PGA Professional and three amateurs.  The team format was one best ball of two, 1 Net and 1 Gross per hole.  There was also an individual PGA Open and Senior Division included in this event for the professionals.  A total of 80 participants competed in this event.  Special thanks to Dave Edwards, Head PGA Professional and his staff at Dubuque Golf & Country Club for hosting this event.  The Team Competition was captured by Matt Lewis, Dean Cavanaugh, Brent Holstein, Jim Hurlburt of Clinton Country Club with a combined score of 11-under-par.  The Open Division was won by John Panek of Davenport Country Club with a 2-under-par 68.  The Senior Division was won by Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course with a 3-over-par 73.

ProLink / Golf Solutions of Iowa Iowa PGA Match Play Championship – May 11-12th, 2009

The 2009 ProLink / Golf Solutions of Iowa Iowa PGA Match Play Championship was held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course on May 11th-12.  Thirty-three Iowa PGA Professionals competed in this single elimination match play competition over 2 days.  Players were seeded upon 2008 Player of the Year Points and player reputation.  The players were treated on Monday to a perfect spring day with sunny skies and a calm breeze.  Tuesday came with strong wind gusts and tougher scoring conditions.  Special thank you to Jack Arendt of ProLink Solutions and Golf Solutions of Iowa for sponsoring the event.  The Iowa PGA would also like to thank Hayley Hill and Sterling Cut Glass the crystal trophy provider of the Iowa Section PGA.  Also, a special thank you to John Dinnebier & Gary Babcock and their staff for hosting the event.

The 2009 ProLink / Golf Solutions of Iowa Iowa PGA Match Play Championship was captured by Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course.  Chad and John Dinnebier of Lake Panorama National Golf Course battled through 18 windy holes on Tuesday in the final match.  Chad made a 20 foot biridie putt on the 18th green to win the Championship.

Play Golf Iowa 2009

Play Golf Iowa was held Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Longview Golf Centre in Grimes, IA.  This was the 4th annual event and was free to all participants.  When attendees registered they received a free ticket to the Principal Charity Classic and a golf goodie bag.  Play Golf Iowa is part of the Play Golf America initiative to get more people playing the game of golf.  For more information about Play Golf America CLICK HERE.

Iowa PGA Professionals were on hand giving free individual lessons and also hosting specialized clinics throughout the day.   Texas Roadhouse was on hand providing free lunch to those attended.  Thank you so much for the great BBQ pulled pork sandwiches – they were delicious!  The Iowa PGA would also like to thank DJ X-TREME for attending the event and providing great music throughout the day.  Other special events included a long drive contest, drawing for golf giveaways, free miniature golf and demos available from the following manufactures, Callaway, Nike Golf, Ping, Cobra, Cleveland, Wilson, TaylorMade and Tour Edge

Iowa Golf Association Wins Iowa Cup

The 2009 Iowa Cup Matches were held at Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club in Rock Island, IL on May 7-8. This annual competition is comprised of a Ryder Cup style format where the top Iowa Section PGA Professionals play against the top Iowa Golf Association Amateurs.

The first  two rounds of team competition included Four-Ball and Foursome matches.  The final round of the event consisted of singles matches.

Both teams selected an Honorary Captain each year.  This year’s Honorary Captains were Norm Luttinen, Iowa Section PGA Team and Roy Carver, Iowa Golf Association Team.

2009 Iowa Cup Matches Results

Iowa PGA Stroke Play #1 – May 4, 2009

The 2009 Iowa PGA Stroke Play #1 was held at Timberline Golf Course in Peosta, IA on Monday, May 4th.  Twenty-eight Iowa Section PGA professionals competed in this individual stroke play event which included both open and senior divisions.  Special thanks to Presenting Sponsor, Scott Harris, Terry Harris, and Steve Haldeman of Harris Golf Cars for sponsoring this event.  Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club captured the Open Division by shooting an impressive 6-under-par 66.  Mark Lemon of Airport National Golf Complex won the Senior Division by shooting a 1-over-par 73.

Iowa PGA Parent Junior #1

The 2009 Iowa PGA Parent Junior #1 was held May, 2 at Jester Park GC.  There were 41 teams participating in 7 total divisions.  Special thanks to Zach Vervaecke, head PGA Professional for hosting this event.  The Iowa PGA would also like to thank Kevin Dorrington and Wilson Golf for their support in sponsorship.   Parents and Juniors competed in either a 9-hole division or 18-hole division.  Boys 11 & under and girls 13 & under competed in an alternate shot format on the par 3 course with all other competitors playing a scramble on the 18 hole course.  This event was also held in conjunction with the Junior Tour Open House.  Presenting Sponsor for the Junior Tour, Nike Golf was on hand with product demos. Thank you Jeff Thornhill and Chandler Evans, Iowa PGA sales representatives for your support.  Also special thanks to Darin Justice and Mark Burke, Iowa PGA Professionals for helping give instruction during the event.
